Teaching and research assistantships are available to qualified applicants. Teaching assistantships are usually in the Department of Mathematics and involve teaching discussion sections for lecture courses, teaching sections of precalculus courses, and tutoring in the Mathematics Laboratory, grading homework and quizzes. These teaching experiences are valuable training and improve the student's communications skills. For more information about teaching assistantships, see the web information about the Graduate Program in the Department of Mathematics.

During the 2025-2026 academic year, the minimum stipend for teaching and research assistantships is $22,669 for 20 hours of work per week. Graduate students with assistantships receive full tuition scholarships. Some fellowships are also available through the Graduate College. Support for students during the summer is available through AMCS Summer Fellowships; in 2025, this summer fellowship pays $3,250 for two summer months. Post-Comp students are also eligible for Graduate College Summer Fellowship.

Through research assistantships, students conduct research on projects with faculty members.

Most financial support starts in the Fall Semester, which begins in late August. Some financial support is sometimes available starting in the Spring Semester, which begins in mid-January. For full consideration, applications for Fall Semester admission should be completed by January 15. Students admitted to the program are offered financial aid. Financial aid is renewed each year to those students who make good progress toward their degree.
